Exclusive to the Spotlight The Federal Election Commission (FEC) has completely ignored the Soviet Union's annual multimillion-dollar contributions to the Communist Party-USA (CPUSA) and its chief commissar, Gus Hall. In light of the revelations emerging from the files of the former Soviet Union detailing these illegal pay-offs, Liberty Lobby, the publisher of The Spotlight, filed a formal complaint with the FEC on March 11 demanding the agency investigate and prosecute not only the CPUSA, but also Boss Hall and his Soviet benefactor, former dictator Mikhail Gorbachev, for their blatant violation of American federal election laws. Gorbachev is already under investigation in Russia for his contributions to the American Communist movement and may ultimately face a prison term if the new rulers of Russia deem it appropriate. Yet, despite the long-term and repeated criminally illegal activities by Hall, the CPUSA and Gorbachev, the FEC has refused to take action nearly eight months after the complaint was filed.
